Small Business Router

What is a router? A router is a device that forwards (routes) data packets along networks. A router is connected to at least two networks, commonly two LANs or WANs or a LAN and its ISP’s network, or all of thes connections simultaneously. Routers are located at gateways, the places where two or more networks connect.

Routers use headers and forwarding tables to determine the best path for forwarding the packets, and they use protocols to communicate with each other and configure the best route between any two hosts.

Small business routers are routers that typically addresses the specific needs of small businesses, providing affordable, easy-to-use, and secure broadband access for data-only applications. Setup should be simple with Web-based tools and remote management options. Routers can also provide powerful advanced features, such as QoS (Quality of Service) for VoIP (Voice over IP), and VPN (Virtual Private Networks) for economical data transport.

Routers interface with Ethernet as well as T-1 and/or fractional T-1 connections. Know which type of connection you’re dealing with!
