Network Technician I

Caleidoscope Communications seeks a well-qualified Network Technician to assist in the support Caleidoscope PBX products including but not limited to ShoreTel, Nortel and Adtran equipment and Adtran routers.   This position will demand an emphasis on day-to-day technical practices and procedures and technical installation and post installation customer support.  The Network Technician I will maintain adequate training on all Caleidoscope hardware product lines and attend off-site and web-based training as requested and required. The Network Technician I will assist in the design of equipment including participation in pricing and proposals for PBX systems and attend customer appointments with adequate notice and within a reasonable distance from the Burlington office. 

The purpose of this role in the Company is to provide quality direct technical support to Caleidoscope customers, Account Executives, the Systems Engineer and Tech Support Specialist.  The work will also deliver direct services to customers and support the relationship with ShoreTel, Adtran, Nortel and other hardware equipment manufacturers as requested or required. 


The specific development focus of this role will require a continued understanding of the Caleidoscope’s equipment family of products and services, technical implementation processes and procedures as it specifically relates to successful installations service and customer satisfaction.  Other key skills to develop will include acquiring a working knowledge of spreadsheet software, database software, local and wide area computer networks, Nortel Networks, ShoreTel, Adtran convergent technology PBX products, firewalls, routers and a working knowledge of our competitor’s service offerings.

Key Competencies required include:

•    In-depth knowledge of telecommunications technologies and hardware to include T-1, POTS, PRI, MPLS
•    Experience with TDM- based digital PBXs along with knowledge of multiple telephone and data wiring standards
•    Requires in-depth knowledge of TCP/IP and underlying protocols with emphasis on routing, IP Telephony, LAN and WAN technologies and hardware, SIP, QOS and VLAN

Core Function Specific Competencies required include:

Experience in the installation and maintenance of PBX and Key telephone systems, LANs and WANs, cabling including CAT 3, CAT 6 and Fiber, design and implementation of communications closets, management of communications equipment and networks via on site and remote administration, basic electronics abilities, fundamental certifications in Nortel, ShoreTel, and Adtran PBXs.
